Curtis Briggs, Cooking Genius
Mr.
Briggs inherited his gift of cooking from his father who, as a naval chef,
traveled around the world, preparing meals for distinguished officials.
Curt earned a BS degree in applied science from the University of Pine Bluff.
He has also earned a Masters Degree in the field of business management
from Northern University.
Teaching elementary school and making barbecue are two worlds that couldn't
be much further apart. Over a decade ago, that's exactly where Curt Briggs
found himself...teaching fifth grade in a Chicago suburb while the rest
of his family had made barbecue.
Making barbecue was a deeply rooted tradition in the Briggs family, dating
all the way back to Curt's great grandfather in Arkansas. People would come
from miles around, enticed by the smell of the delicious ribs being turned
on the grill. At these historic cookouts was also the beginning of the barbecue
sauce that would soon come to be known as "CAPTAIN CURT'S FAMOUS BOSS SAUCE".
The family tradition was passed down to Curt's grandfather, then to Curt's
father, a navy chef for over twenty years. Obviously being Curt's biggest
influence, his father taught him every last secret to making great barbecue.
Curt learned every last bit of it, but yearned to do something different
than the three previous Briggs generations. So CUrt pursued teaching even
though barbecue was still deeply rooted in his heart.
Then,
over two decades ago, an event took place that would change Curt's life
forever...the passing of his father. With the loss of his father was also
the potential loss of the tradition of the Briggs' Barbecue, unless Curt
carried the tradition on. Curt found himself at a crossroads. He loved barbecue,
but he still wanted to do something different than his family before him.
His family had never shared their sauce with the general public...only family
and friends. This was the way Curt could be different, and still carry on
what his great grandfather, grandfather, and father had passed on to him.
This would be the beginning of "CAPTAIN CURT'S FAMOUS BOSS SAUCE".
Did Curt make the right choice? You could go ask any one of Curt's millions
of customers. You'll find him cooking at his restaurant at 8212 S. Cottage
Grove or you will be able to find one of his products at one of the grocery
stores in the Chicagoland or St. Louis areas.
